| Abstract:
Space is increasingly shaping the future of our societies, yet its long-term value depends on the adoption of safe and sustainable operational practices. This presentation addresses some key challenges currently faced in the space sector, and highlight guidance, navigation and control (GNC) as core enabling technologies for reliable, autonomous and safe space operations.
The talk will present innovative GNC solutions for active debris removal and in-orbit servicing in both LEO and GEO, drawing on missions such as ClearSpace-1, ASTRAL and GEORYDER, where Indra Space is actively involved as a key partner in the development and validation of GNC systems.
The relevance of GNC solutions is further highlighted for the cases of re-usable platforms (SRGNC, IXV), as well as the recovery of space assets through atmospheric reentry (ICARUS, DRACO, EFESTO).
Finally, the presentation illustrates the central role of GNC in launcher applications, covering robust, safe, and efficient control architectures for smart launchers, state‑of‑the‑art guidance solutions for landing and recovery, and recent research on innovative techniques for the early verification and validation of autonomous space systems.
